Hearing God in the Quiet and in the Chaos...

Recently I had a revelation about hearing God. Often we hear about how we need to be quiet before God and listen. This is true. But then as we go about our busy days do we just stop listening? Of course not. I had heard a fantastic speaker who said she doesn't even get out of bed without hearing from God. Whoa! So I had been thinking of that all week. Then one day I was at a kids event. There were lots of kids, it was noisy and I was sitting with a friend of mine, who had her baby with her. There was another baby in a back room behind us sleeping. Among the noise of the kids singing songs my friend said to me. "Oh, the other baby is up. It's funny how when you have a baby you hear other babies too." I hadn't heard the other baby crying. That's when God gave me a revelation. He desires to speak to us. He desires that we sit and be still before Him but He doesn't want us to then just stop listening for His voice when we can't be still. Anyone who is a mother will know how no matter what you are doing your ear is inclined towards your child. When you are asleep, you are listening for your baby. When you are in a noisy room, you hear your baby among the chaos. That's how we should be with God. As we go about our busy, often noisy and chaotic days even then our ears should be inclined to His voice. Just as that mother heard that baby in that noisy room our ears should be inclined towards God. So I encourage you to incline your ears towards Him, listen for His voice in the stillness and in the chaos of life.

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27
